SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Cam Weaver scored just before halftime to give the San Jose Earthquakes a lead they never relinquished as they defeated the Houston Dynamo 3-2 on Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Weaver's goal capped a wild 14-minute span in the first half when all five goals were scored. Ryan Johnson and Arturo Alvarez scored three minutes apart to give the Quakes a two-goal lead, but the Dynamo responded quickly, with goals from Chris Wondolowski and Brad Davis in a three-minute span to pull level, setting the stage for Weaver's 44th-minute heroics.
SJ Quakes Are No Longer at Bottom in The West After the Win Against Kansas City 2-1
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Two months ago, the San Jose Earthquakes were
dead and buried. Saturday night against the Kansas City Wizards, they
continued their resurrection, as Darren Huckerby's header with seven
minutes remaining allowed the Quakes to claim a 2-1 victory and
continue their push for a playoff spot.
Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes attempt to climb out of the Western Division cellar got another step up Saturday night as they beat a depleted New England Revolution 4-0 at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Ronnie O'Brien scored two goals and set up another, with Ryan Johnson and Scott Sealy also scoring as the Quakes scored three goals in 17 minutes late in the game. With the victory, San Jose has won two games in a row for the first time this season, and is now is unbeaten in their last five matches. New England's loss drops them to second place in the Eastern Conference, one point behind Columbus.
It was the eighth game
of the season, but Thursday's showdown with the Houston Dynamo felt
like the true rebirth of the San Jose Earthquakes.
The Quakes beat the team they replaced, a 2-1 victory over the
defending Major League Soccer champions that was their first at home
and their most complete game of the season

Let's get ready to rumble -- again. The San Jose Earthquakes are coming back for the 2008 season of Major League Soccer, this time as a new expansion team.
According to a source with knowledge of the deal, Oakland A's owner Lew Wolff and his ownership group will be a guest of MLS Commissioner Don Garber at Thursday's All-Star game outside of Denver, and the official announcement may come at a press conference before the game. Wolff can now exercise his option to start his expansion franchise for the '08 season.
While executive vice president of Earthquakes Soccer David Alioto would neither confirm or deny the deal, he said: "Should we begin activation for the 2008 season we will immediately start the search for a technical director and a head coach."
