According to a note by UBS Research analyst John Hodulik, AT&T is slowing the deployment of their "next-generation" VDSL IPTV service, U-Verse. Hodulik says UBS initially expected AT&T to pass 11 million homes in 2009, but has re-guesstimated that AT&T will pass just 4-5 million homes this year.
From DSL Reports
Ruckus says its 802.11n equipment can ensure the transmission of 30 Mbit/s to 50 Mbit/s of guaranteed throughput for streaming video throughout a typical 2,500 square-foot to 3,000 square-foot (230 square meter) home. The MediaFlex 7000 device manual says it can support four to six MPEG-4 HDTV IPTV streams running at 10 Mbit/s each.
Light Reading, in-home coax is often in crappy condition, so AT&T is about to begin trials of 802.11n networking gear from Ruckus:
It only took ATT over four mouths to to get off their duff to finally get around to add those six Viacom HD channels. VDSL2, pair bonding, 3HD stream, THDVR phase 2 and 3 are still mouths away to be rolled out national wide.
Yes Viacom HD channels are now Live! Well here in San Jose, CA. I can now watch daily show, south park and CSI NY reruns in HD! But still No sign of CSN California or Local Digital sub Channels. My Total ATT UV channel count is now 486. It only took ATT over four mouths to to get off their duff to finally get around to add these HD channels.
U-verse TV customers can now enjoy MTV HD, VH1 HD, CMT HD, Nickelodeon
HD, COMEDY CENTRAL HD and Spike HD as part of their existing HD service
subscription, depending on their programming package. With the new
additions, the U-verse TV HD channel lineup continues to exceed the HD
channel lineups offered by the major local cable providers in every
U-verse TV market.

Many Comcast customers who receive analog cable will soon have to get a set-top box to continue to view most channels. http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_11594570 The
company is upgrading its system in the Bay Area, moving some 47 basic
channels that it previously delivered via analog signals to digital
transmissions. To receive the newly digital channels, most customers
will need one of the company's set-top boxes. The upgrades will
begin around March 9 in Pleasanton and Santa Clara and continue a week
later in San Mateo, San Carlos, San Rafael and other cities. The
company, which has already begun to notify affected customers, has not
said when it will make the upgrade in San Jose. But it plans to
complete the Bay Area revamp by the end of the year. Digital
signals require less bandwidth than analog ones, noted Andrew Johnson,
a Comcast spokesman. The change will free up space to offer all
customers more high-definition channels and faster Internet connections. But, Remember Comcast will be offering the first SDTV STB and Two additional digital transport adapters (DTA)for free. How could this upgrade from Comcast Be bad for the Average Cable Consumers. Since majority of Comcast Costumers base are Demanding more HD Channels and Faster Internet. In the long run this will Free up more Bandwidth and it will make Comcast more Competitive in the SF Bay Area Market Place. In turn it will force ATT to Get on the their duff,to Upgrade their U-Verse Network with VDSL-2 and Pair Bonding. to match Comcast offering of HD Channels and 50/20 Internet access tiers

Comcast Raise their Price on STB and DVR all the time.
When I first Sign up with Comcast. Their DVR it was $9.99 mouth now it cost $15.99 a mouth. In some markets its $18.99 w/tivo service its three dollars more.
At least with ATT UV. they still include a free DVR. And what I can read from UTalk and Uverseusers.com The $2 dollars for non-DVRs fee increase is for those subscribers who sign up after the ATT UV stop offering 2 free STB. By February I will know if would hit with either with $4 or $14 price hike or my ATT UV monthly rate will stay the same.
But In Other ATT UV Rumor mill news In the January U-Guide 41 new HD channels 9 new HBO, 3 Showtime, no Cinemax. Revamp Programming Tiers U-Basic, U-450.
